I’m doing a little series of posts that feature old blog posts. I have been going back and looking at them. It’s been fun. I started blogging in June of 2009…WOW. Over ten years. I’m so glad I’ve kept the blog as a diary of sorts…today I’m telling you about projects I finished in October of 2011.

At the time it was only published in a magazine. The quilt was later published in Bonnie Hunter’s book String Fling. You can find the book HERE on Amazon. Of all of her books, this one is my favorite. I made every quilt in the book. In fact, I made every quilt in the book and one quilt I made twice! You can see all of the quilts in THIS blog post.

I pieced the funkiest backing ever for this quilt…

I am so glad I upgraded to my APQS Millenium.
Kelli and I had a CRAZY weekend sewing on our… Perkimon Daydreams quilts. Kelli had us graduated to warrior status and put headbands on us.
Then Kelli thought the dogs needed a headband too….That’s about when our youngest daughter Kalissa came in and decided we were just plain crazy.
She insisted on a picture.
It’s goofy but it’s one of my favorite pictures ever.

I loved making these quilts!! Together, Kelli and I have made four of them. What a scrap buster!!

Last month in the Blast from the Past I told you that I was hosting a Crumb Along. In October these were the steps we covered.
Directions #5- Triangles
Triangles were used in several different blocks.
We did a log cabin block…Directions #6-Log Cabin
For week seven of the Crumb Along, we sewed the center of our quilt and added the inner borders. Directions #7-Center and Border Configuration
Last we talked about adding the alphabet letters around the outside.
Directions #8-Borders
Here was my to finished. It was a while later before it was fully finished.
It was such a fun quilt to make…lots of work, but fun. I smile when I see the quilt. I made this in 2011. At the time I told the kids that this quilt would be gifted to the first grandchild. Back then we didn’t have any grandkids. I never dreamed we would wait five years..or that our youngest Kalissa would have that first grandbaby. At the time I made it, she was only a junior in highschool. Reading these posts and seeing what happened is one of the reasons I really love blogging. I feel bad for the people who write blogs and don’t include family stuff as they don’t get the same “look back” that I get.

All of my kids can sew…Even my boys. Kelli is the only one that loves to sew. Kalissa and Kayla both sew but more out of necessity. If Kalissa wants pillows for her living room, she’ll sew. Otherwise, she really doesn’t. Admittedly, when I was deep into little ones like they all are, I didn’t sew much either. It will be interesting if once they all get past having little kiddos if they will pick up any of my hobbies like gardening or sewing. Hopefully I’ll still be alive in ten years and I can look back at this blog post and see what has changed in the last ten years. All I know for sure is that I really hope covid is in the past by then.
