I’m doing a little series of posts that feature old blog posts. I have been going back and looking at them. It’s been fun. I started blogging in June of 2009…WOW. Over ten years. I’m so glad I’ve kept the blog as a diary of sorts…today I’m telling you about things I was working on in April of 2012.
April of 2012 was a terribly busy month for me and the family. I pulled this that I wrote from one of the blog posts.
“Over the last few weeks, my life has been a whirlwind. After Kelli and I got back from seeing Bonnie Hunter in Moline at the beginning of April, I started scrambling to get things together for our family Easter and my trip to Cincinnati to the International Quilt Festival. Just as I was ready to leave for Cincinnati, my husband’s mom took a turn for the worst. She was 91 and in the nursing home.”
Grandma Kramer ended up passing away a few days after I got back from the show. It was a month filled with joy and sorrow.

Bonnie Hunter was hosting a “What’s on you Bed” linky party. I participated and shared this quilt that was on my bed. This is Paducah Nine Patch from Pat Speth’s Nickel Quilts.
I adore this quilt. It’s another I’ll never give away. This is the most used quilt that I use on my own bed.
I had wrapped up the Crumb Along Quilt Along that I hosted. I had many people ask about my quilt and how to construct the blocks. I wrote a tutorial of shorts. You can read the post HERE.
I finished up this little mini quilt…
We had this quilt featured on Moda Bake Shop. You can find the free pattern HERE. This was a fun quilt to make.
When I was in Cincinati with the gals from Country Threads, they had shown me these…it’s a glasses case made from folding a pothold in half and embellishing it with a yo-yo.
This is a quick and easy present idea.
I loved going to Cincinati with them. They had a booth at the show and I helped them with the booth. I don’t know that I was much help, but I enjoyed myself, and I dared ask the question, “How did Mary and Connie start Country Threads together?”. You all will have to go over and leave a comment on Mary’s Chicken Scratch blog and ask here the question. (Sorry Mary, I couldn’t resist)
Anyway while I was at the show with them, I got to shop too. My favorite booth besides Country Threads’ was Primitive Gatherings. I’d really like to go to their store one day.
Here are a few things that caught my eye.
I already had this pattern…and sadly, I still haven’t made it.
I have the book that has this pattern in it and it’s another I still haven’t made.
I finished some more mini quilts…
Mentally the whole month was hard jumping from one thing to another. At one point I finally sat down and sewed. I was able to get this quilt top together. It’s My Blue Heaven. I did mine in reds. It’s a free Bonnie Hunter pattern.
I was also working on this project. It’s Bargello in Plaid. It can be found in Bonnie Hunter’s book, Scraps and Shirttails.
Things that happened that weren’t quilting related…We got baby chicks.
Oh I love baby chicks.
Kalissa went to Prom. This was her junior year…
…and Kayla and Spencer got engaged!! 10 years later they have Jasper. They look like babies in this picture!!
You can see why I said it was both a happy month and one filled with sorrow…
Whenever I do these Blast from the past posts, I’m always sad I didn’t have the camera I do today!!
